Heat Pumps Hot Water Systems
Green Fact: Using the heat from the air to heat your hot water not only reduces your carbon footprint, it also lowers your energy consumption, therefore reducing the cost you pay for your electricity. Heat Pumps are a great alternative for those who cannot get access to Solar Hot Water. |
Heat pumps are a special type of water system. Instead of water passing through the collectors a refrigerant is used. Heat is extracted from the atmosphere using the refrigerant gas and a compressor (in much the same way as heat is extracted from your fridge) and used to heat water stored in the tank at ground level.

What's the difference between a heat pump and solar hot water system?
The heat pump does not use the sunlight to heat water rather the system operates by absorbing heat from the air to heat the water in the tank. A fan at the top of the heat pump draws in air through an evaporated coil, which extracts the energy from the air in the form of heat, and then transfers it directly to the water in the tank.
Air sourced heat pumps are one of the most efficient methods of heating water as they provide savings on your hot water heating while reducing the impact on the evironment.
